This pin is named after the father of the VGL - Sir Richard Burton, famed English explorer. It was Burton's idea of "Elsewhen" that spurred Alexander Graham Bell to create the Virtual Geographic League.

The Burton Pin is awarded to those pilots who pass the Master Trial in BattleTech. It is possible to have more than one Burton Pin. The player must best players who are already Masters to get this pin. A specific description of the Red Planet or BattleTech Master Trials can be found in their respective Special Events Bible.

The Order of Burton is one of the hardest to earn and so one of the most coveted of all the pins awarded by the VGL.
